Earplugs and sound levels at be•at events
At all be•at venues, you can get free earplugs at the info desk, or buy reusable earplugs from an Earbeanz vending machine. We closely monitor sound levels at every event using a decibel meter.
Can I get earplugs?
Yes. At all be•at venues, you can request free earplugs at the info desk in the main entrance hall. In Flanders, organizers are required to provide these free of charge when sound levels exceed 95 dBA. These free foam earplugs are less effective than custom-made ones (offering up to 15 dB of attenuation), but still provide some protection.
Note: make sure to insert them correctly — if they don't fit well, they offer less protection and can give a false sense of safety.
Prefer reusable, comfortable earplugs? In the foyer of AFAS Dome, Lotto Arena and Forest National, you'll find Earbeanz vending machines where you can buy them for €10.99. Thanks to the built-in filter, sound is reduced to a safe level without affecting your concert experience.
What are the guidelines for sound levels?
For every event at our venues, we closely monitor sound levels using a decibel meter and take appropriate measures when needed. We do this based on a rolling average over a 60-minute period: this means there can be peaks above the legal limit — for example, from loud applause or cheering — as long as the average sound level over 60 minutes stays within the legal limit.
